Happy Birthday, John Basilone! (November 4, 1916)
John Basilone was a Medal of Honor recipient due to his heroic actions on Guadalcanal, and also received the Navy Cross. He helped sell war bonds back in the states and ended up marrying Lena Riggi in 1944. His life was cut tragically short on February 19, 1945 as he became just another casualty on Iwo Jima. To this day, since 1981, his hometown of Raritan has held a parade in honor of him. We miss you, Manila John.
